Unlike \u201chot\u201d lasers, which use heat generated by different wavelengths of light being absorbed into nails to cook and kill the fungus, the Lunula \u201ccold\u201d laser uses laser diodes which produce laser light with\u00a0<strong>no heat<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Two wavelengths of light are used:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013 405nm damages the fungal pathogen which can cause immediate death but also weakens the pathogens immune defences<\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013\u00a0635nm increases blood flow and improves the immune responses attack of the weakened pathogen<\/p>\r\n<p>these effectivley kill the Onychomycosis causing pathogen across the entire nail plate\/bed and surrounding tissue down to the germinal matrix of all toes.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>The Lunula \u2018Cold\u2019 Laser\u00a0is painless with no known complications<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Traditional nail treatments include:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013\u00a0<em>oral medication<\/em>\u00a0which needs to be taken for many weeks, even months in some cases, and can cause side effects in the body (including damage to the liver in some circumstances);<\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013\u00a0<em>topical medication<\/em>\u00a0such as medicated nail lacquers. These are not effective in many patients and need to be applied regularly (daily or weekly) depending on the medication.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013\u00a0<em>topical non-medicated treatments<\/em>\u00a0such as acidic and plastic applicators. Several pen-like devices are available which work by changing the environment of the nail. Some make the mail more acidic, others plasticise the nail and this inhibits growth of the fungus. The treatments rely on constant use during the nail plate growth (daily or weekly applications depending on the product) and are not effective in all\u00a0patients.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u2013\u00a0<em>removal of nails<\/em>\u00a0by your Podiatrist or Doctor. Severely infected nails have had to be \u201cremoved\u201d under local anaesthetic and a new nail allowed to grow.
